A Presentation from Freeman, "For Mrs. Gould, Rome, 20th October 1870." Gould is most probably Mrs. Jay Gould (Helen Day Miller) whose husband was a prominent Robber Baron. J.E. Freeman was a prominent member of the Sketch Club of American Artists at Rome. In a full-vellum gilt binding by L. Olivier, Rome, with his binder's ticket. Lacks one leaf of text describing a photogravure. Extremities of spine chipped; some light spordic foxing. Suites such as this were presented to visiting dignitaries on their Grand Tour.
