First published in 1883, the third edition was "revised and enlarged."  Gabler mentions that thirty of the text illustration plates were photographed directly onto wood blocks and then engraved.  In addition there are fifty other illustrations in the text.  Presentation bookplate on inside of front board from the Birmingham and Midland Counties, Gardeners' Mutual Improvement Association -- Prize awarded to W. H. Wilson, Dec. 15th, 1894.  Slight cover wear.
