DESIGNS FOR DINING ROOM, DRAWING ROOM, BEDROOM, LIBRARY, HALL, OFFICE, AND MISCELLANEOUS FURNITURE.
Glasgow: Gorman, n.d. (circa 1880s). Folio. Publisher's cloth. (278) pages. First edition.
This is a rare, ostensibly generic furniture trade catalogue with a block on the title page to be filled in by the manufacturer. Each page bears the monogram "RB" contained in a crest. Try as we might, we have been unable to identify this firm. The catalogue illustrates 1,062 items on 278 pages. There are no references to it in OCLC although they do cite two other books with the same title. The first is London: Sir Joseph Couston & Sons, with 334 pages dated 1903. The second is London: H.L.L. dated 1898 with 378 pages. Both of these have one location each: the first at the University of Leiden; the second at the V & A. Certainly a curious and most comprehensive book concentrating on mid-Victorian and early aesthetic movement styles. Covers show water damage and some wear; internally very good.
