Mary Eliza Haweis was a leading authority on matters of taste and decoration in London society, gaining recognition primarily through her articles, books, and her function as social hostess.  The Art of Beauty includes information on dress, interior decoration, and female development.  Mrs. Haweis liked artistic color schemes and rococo ornamentation.  She provided her own illustrations for this book.  Inscriptions in ink, else a very bright copy.
