First edition of this important art historical work with detailed geometrical plates on Arabic Art by Jules Bourgoin, architect and lecturer in the history and theory of ornaments at L'Ecole de Beaux Arts at Paris.  This is one of the earliest works published on the subject.  The work starts with a preface, and a description of the plates and is followed by the main part: the detailed plates of intricate geometric patterns common in Arabic art.  The chromolithographic plates are by Schmidt and are printed by Firmin-Didot.  Fine.
