First printed in New York in 1836, this is the first, and only, Confederate imprint edition, and an exceptionally rare Confederate imprint especially with the added gold stamped title "Mahan's Field Fortification."   "Containing instructions on the methods of laying out, constructing, defending, and attacking intrenchments; with the general outlines also of the arrangement, the attacks and defence of permanent fortifications.  Written by Mahan when he was professor of military and civil engineering in the United States Military Academy.  Wear stains to the boards; edges and tips worn.  Binding is tight and square.
