ARTISTIC HOMES IN CITY AND COUNTRY

FULLER, Albert W.  ARTISTIC HOMES IN CITY AND COUNTRY.

Boston: James Osgood, 1882. Oblong folio. Publisher's cloth. (xii) pages, 44 plates, printed on recto only. First edition. [Hitchcock, 479].

A charming aesthetic movement book illustrated with plans and fine heliotype drawings of "Stick Style" homes, rediscovered by Vincent Scully.  The interior settings all have aesthetic movement details.  The final plate is of a large country church.  While there are many listings for this title on OCLC, we could not find a copy selling at auction of any edition for the past thirty years and no copy of the first edition catalogued by Charles Wood or Geoffrey Steele of a first edition.  Early owners name in ink on title leaf, "Geo. H. Hastings, Sept. 20th '83."  The publisher's pictorial binding, while showing light wear, is quite charming.  A very good copy of an American architectural rarity.
